MARSHALL
The town of Marshall is situated in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina along the French Broad River approxiamately 22 miles northwest of Asheville on Highway 25/70 between Weaverville and Hot Springs.
The town is the seat of the county government and is home for the county courthouse, the Depot, numerous businesses, shops and churches, as well as being rich in history, scenery, activities and culture. Marshall is only 10 miles from the college community of Mars Hill and I-26, certainly making it convenient to many travelers.
The Courthouse constructed in 1906, is a two story Neo-Classical Revival brick structure in the town of Marshall. It cost $30,000.00 to build. The cupola, a four stage polygonal structure, is one of the most impressive courthouse cupolas in North Carolina. The domical roof, bearing clocks on its alternate faces, is capped by a lantern which serves as a pedestal for a statue of Blind Justice. This courthouse was built buy the famed architect, Richard Sharp Smith.
